Councilmember Ray Tretheway of the City of Sacramento’s District #1 held a public meeting recently at the Natomas Community Center. N Magazine’s Karen Wilson was there as a co-sponsor, and the room was standing room only, with everyone there wanting information on flood issues in Natomas. Assembled at the head table was basically anyone with authority over flood and flood-related issues facing Natomas. There was a great opportunity for the meeting to get out of hand due to the flood control construction project going on and other issues. But Ray kept the meeting running smoothly, and everyone got a lot of good information. I especially liked the idea of asking questions through turning in cards. This kept things orderly and helped get the most information out to the most people in the most efficient manner. When and if Ray ever retires from City Council, we should hire him as the Conservancy’s meeting and event guru…

The photo was taken on Conservancy mitigation land associated with a managed marsh complex.
