Sacramento attorney Nick Avdis was awarded the Conservancy’s “Big Hat” Award at the Conservancy’s November 4, 2015 Board of Directors meeting. The award is given to those who perform extraordinary service on behalf of the Conservancy. Candidates for the award are those not directly affiliated with the Conservancy.
Avdis assisted the Conservancy in obtaining lower flood insurance rates. Conservancy Board Secretary David Christophel acknowledged Avdis’ efforts at the recent Conservancy Board meeting, saying, “Nick went the extra mile in researching flood insurance rates and practices. In working with elected leaders, public agencies and Conservancy staff, Nick was able to get a lower flood insurance rate for the Conservancy.” The result will save the Conservancy thousands of dollars a year in flood insurance premiums.
The Conservancy’s “Big Hat” Award was last given to construction worker Randy Waite, who, while on a major construction project on the Conservancy’s BKS tract, found numerous Giant garter snakes when others believed none were present.
