The Conservancy recently acquired the 94.951-acre Vestal South tract, increasing still further the assembly of contiguous parcels in the Conservancy’s North Basin Reserve Area. The tract lies nearly completely in the “Swainson’s Hawk Zone” in South Sutter County and has long been a producing rice field.
The Conservancy has assembled 1,641 contiguous acres in its North Basin Reserve Area, and this is 65.6 percent of the way to the 2,500-acre contiguous preserve requirement in the NBHCP. The Conservancy now counts just over 2,000 acres in its North Basin Reserve Area. The nearby Lucich North and Frazer tracts make up the difference (along with two small conservation easements).
